I am just curious to see who is required to blog at their station. We just started it up a little more than a month ago. If you do have to blog, what do you usually write about. Some days I talk about the weather but on quiet days, my topics range quite a bit.

Hey Packerland,

We do it. It wasn't a requirement to do it, but it's something to help me pass the time sometimes. On heavy weather days, you get some pretty good hits.

We normally blog about whatever is going on... where we're going, what's current in the weather world, whatever. You can check mine out at http://www.wjactv.com/weatherblog. We add video and stuff, too!

We do blogging here...not required, but if we slack in winter, the viewers will let us know! It's exploded here. We've averaged about 150 responses in each daily entry over the last week...and that's for a not so big snowstorm. I usually stay away from other topics, unless I work it in to a weather entry, but I've tried to push the limits a little more lately when I can.

If you're curious (and yes, I did just lay down ground rules):

Also, you may want to revisit this thread on blogging:

I have fun with it because I really feel like i can say what I want...even if I forget or am too pressed for time on-air. They can get the real story. But, it is time consuming and while I graciously keep up with it, I can understand why others may have an issue investing all this time into it.

We just started ours up not to long ago and post on it each day, sometimes twice a day. I usually add graphics that I made for my on air show to the blog online.

I suggested starting a blog a few weeks ago, and the GM jumped on it. It's 3 weeks old, and averaging 500 hits/day (not comments) with an upward trend. Of course, anything which increases website traffic makes GMs happy.

It's extra work, and one or two dweebs have shown up, but all-in-all it's been fun. (WIVB Buffalo)

My chief and I have personal blogs linked to the station website. We bog about weather, personal stuff, or whatever is going on. It is a great way to connect to viewers and give them insight into what goes on behind the scenes.
