I just ordered a Davis Weather Station and I'm very excited to get this thing up and running. I also want to get some software for my computer so I can access the information online and possibly put it up on Weather Underground. What's the best software available?

Just order the software from Davis, it runs about 13-150 dollars but well worth it. It is a no brainer, it just about does everything for you and tells you how to upload to Weatherunderground. I do it and it works great. Did you get the Vantage Pro 2?, if so a great system.

Lets hope you dont have the same troubles I had with my Davis Vantage Pro Wireless. Constant problems with the signal from the transmitter. Talked to Davis support, they wanted to make me pay $75 for a new board. They told me that they knew they had a bad batch of boards and were charging the general public $140 for them but as a special favor to me, they would offer it at 50% discount....bite me. I have never owned another Davis product since.

We love our Davis (WIRED) system, it's the older Wx Wizard 3. We use Virtual Weather Station (http://www.ambientweather.com/virtualstation.html)from Ambient, and love it. LOTS of abilities, about $100.

Bureau chief:

Sorry to hear that about your vantage pro, it is far better than the LaCrosse system I had. Not nearly as professional, would not communicate with my computer and had a year of fustration with it. Not so with the Davis unit. Again, sorry to hear about your problems.

Been using Free Wx for 2 full years now with no problems and it's Free!

I have a Wireless OS WMR-968

We have a few Vantage Pro 2's out there. Does anyone know the programming they use to transmit data?? Aside from the lack of sky coverage readings, would it be possible to program it to read in METAR format?

We have several around the area, but would love to get a network going...someday.

Our Vantage Pro has also had a number of problems. Personally, I think the previous generation Weather Monitor and Weather Wizard systems had better durability/reliability.

In response to the original question, I've used Virtual Weather Station but found that it crashes and locks up quite frequently. I know WeatherView 32 is supposed to be good. I've never used it personally. It's a bit more expensive than VWS.
