I wanna pipe our local tower cam into one of my WSI boxes but the I have to converst the camera signal to digital video to make it compatible with the box's vid card.
Has anyone had to acquire one of these gizmos?

Would a cheap VCR work? Analog video in, digital outs. The VCR just has to have digital output...

If the VCR has a 601 output, then yes...but I have never heard of such, and I am pretty sure it would cost a lot. A VCR with digital outputs? Do tell.....

I was going to make a joke about wanting a record player that records MP3's, but then I did a search and found one!!!! (http://http://www.popmatters.com/pm/news/article/8909/record-player-coverts-vinyl-records-to-mp3/)
I also found the VCR (http://http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=88000&i=158RDRV555&tp=172) you are looking for!

Take out the extra "http://" and Severe's link works. The only digital out on that VCR is audio and I believe it's video that's the issue.
I must have been thinking of S-Video, and yes, many VCRs these days have S-Video.
I guess the question to ask is, what flavor of digital video does this card need to accept?
(This coming from a RADIO guy who knows all sorts of A-D/D-A tricks for SOUND...)

I'm sure there are lots of dudes out there looking for an A to D converter. If things like that could be in the hands of men, it'd be a big, bubbly world. :)

OK if the Chief was no help (and I don't understand why he wasn't but that's not my porblem) we need more info.
What is your video source? Are you getting the feed from a DA via cable with BNC termination? What kind of inputs are on your video card?
This is a pretty straight forward conversion and your Chief should have been able to give you a prefered vendor to deal with if he didn't have one just sitting around.

I am pretty sure that the input into your WSI box would be a Serial 601...and I will assume that your cam's output is a standard composite. If this is the case, you will need a composite (A) to Serial 601 (D) converter.

How's it working out for you? I'm pondering splurging and buying it for my parents...

"No reason to get excited"
My Chief thought that before we jump into something blindly, why not go to those who may already be doing what we want to do...perhaps they could offer direction. Originally he had me talk to WSI. No glory. So I decided to check with my peers.

Cobalt was mentioned earlier in the thread. Another option is AJA:
