the company i work for wants all their stations to do "evergreen" sweeps pieces that can be used in any market. so far this month, we have only had three hyper local sweeps pieces. the rest have been on subjects that would work in all of the company's stations. is this a normal practice, or is this the price of big corporate ownership of media outlets?

It has been going on for years in some companies. It demonstrates a basic misunderstanding of the nature of what local news ought to be. When bean counters and salesman start making tactical editorial decisions in order to save $, consider yourself doomed. This is just another of the many reasons local news has deteriorated to the point that it is nothing more than a commodity in most markets with nothing unique to set it apart.

It has been going on a long time. But you usually work something local into the story if you have any pride at all.
