USER OPTIONS:
Please make this your first stop, so that you can verify the settings here, such as which Time Zone you prefer, etc. You definitely want to turn on the Full WYSIWYG editor, which is at the bottom of the options. This is required to use the smilies in your posts, too.

Edit your user options here:
http://openline.medialine.com/profile.php?do=editoptions

YOUR PROFILE:
The next stop should be your profile page, to double check all the info there.

View or edit your profile here:
http://openline.medialine.com/profile.php?do=editprofile

Note: thread edited on 1-13-2008 to keep it on-topic.

Avatars:

Avatars are the small images you can set which show up next to a person's name when viewing posts. The avatar also shows up when viewing the Member list.

You can use the user control panel to select from the avatars I've added so far, or upload your own. Max dimensions of the image are 85 x 85 pixels, so you may need to do some editing/resizing.

No offensive images will be tolerated! Same goes for images subject to copyright. We're serious about this, and please contact the webmasters or moderators to report something offensive.

You can select or upload a custom avatar here:

Signatures:

The database import of old signatures may have added a special character, for instance if you had single or double quotes.

You can fix this easily by going to your user control panel, and updating the signature there by editing the text. Once you save it, your signature should be updated on every post you've made.

Edit your signature here:
http://openline.medialine.com/profile.php?do=editsignature

Members List:

The members list shows everyone with an account who's posted at least one message. You must be logged in to see the list, for privacy reasons.

The members list is available here to logged in users:
http://openline.medialine.com/memberlist.php

If you would prefer to not be shown in the list, you can change your visibility by editing your user options via the control panel.

BIRTHDAYS?

The new calendar shows registered members who have a birthday. If you don't want this shown, you can change the visibility in your user control panel.

The forum will even send you a PM to wish you a happy birthday, once the day arrives.

You can view the calendar here:
http://openline.medialine.com/calendar.php

CAN I CHANGE MY LOGIN OR DISPLAY NAME?

Sorry, but the ability to have a different name show up was a feature unique to the old forum software.

If you would like to change your username, we can do it manually, provided that the requested name is available. Multiple requests from the same person will most likely be frowned upon. ;)

Just email webmaster@medialine.com or PM me for help with this.

Where is the old forum?

The old Open Line forum has been made read-only, but will be up indefinitely in case you need to access old settings there.

Here is a tip to start things off... While viewing the list of topics in a forum, you can sort the list using the headings. Your sorting should stay when you return to the forum, too.

Once threads start to get ratings from people, you can sort by rating to get some semblance of the highest rated threads at top (versus the ones with the newest posts).

Something cool that I've been using quite a bit.... Thread Subscriptions!

When you're viewing a thread, there is a "Thread Tools" link in the top menu bar. Click on that, and one of the options that pops up is "Subscribe to Thread".

You can view the subscribed threads in your User Control Panel. In this way, you could build your own Open Line with just the threads you care about watching.

You can also turn on email notifications for subscribed threads, when you really want to respond quickly.

Yo Toddy - do you think Openline is ready for sub-forums? Might be helpful in organizing some of the topics to make for better discussion and easier to find. Just a thought ... I'd love a sub-forum for TV Show discussions.

Hi HushHush,

The plan at this point, I think, is to let the new blog room and the sports line mature a bit, before trying to add another new forum.

Sounds like a great idea, though.
