View Full Version : Stupid Weather Promos

Here's one I just saw last night:
It shows the local NBC guy, AKA Cyclone Jones (called that for his exaggerated storm tracking skills and general radar madness) walking a tree line collecting apples with his daughter (she's cute). He's talking about how much you can depend on him and his weather team WHEN FALL ARRIVES! Hey, there's not a leaf left on any tree in the state of Kansas, we just had an ice storm last week... FALL is long gone, and we're not pulling apples off trees anymore.
WHY!!!! do they air this crap!? It makes the station look pretty stupid, in my opinion. I know, the Winter Solstice has not come to pass just yet, but really...when it's raining ice and causing states of emergency in rural counties, why bother calling it fall/autumn. It's practically winter, and showing your weather guy strolling a tree line pickin' apples as if they just shot the promo that day doesn't feel right. You might as well recycle a promo that was recorded a year ago, but with images of snow, wrecked cars, fallen trees, lightning while it's snowing...you know, that typical Cyclone Jones disaster montage. We're getting ready for winter, man! Not FALL!

You know there is a very real possibility that it aired by accident. It can happen.

This is my favorite weather promo ever:
(couldn't find the video)
Lame Weatherman: So this low pressure systme is going to be very active. We're ognna have a cold front that's gonna push through - it's really gonna result in some precipitation, so you may want to bundle up and put on your galoshes..
http://snltranscripts.jt.org/95/pics/95imackey.jpg
Announcer: Are you tired of little boys trying to talk like weatherman, telling you what the weather may or may not be? Then turn to News 4's John-John Mackey and his Storm Tracker Accu-Cast. John-John doesn't just tell you about the weather. He grabs that bastard weather and pounds it into little, pathetic shards. Then shoves those shards into your pink, puffy face.
John-John Mackey: I'll get you inside the storm! I'll let you live the storm, be the storm! And then, baby, I'll make you love that storm Froggy-Style!
Announcer: So, if you want to hear vague forecasts full of hot air - watch someone else. But for Storm Tracker in Accu-Cast, turn to John-John Mackey, who will fill every hole you've got with the latest breaking weather! So, when you want to know what storm is breaking, count on John-John Mackey to lasso the storm, take it apart, and show you how sad it really is.
John-John Mackey: When I see a storm front coming, I'm all, "What's up, *****?!" And the storm is all, "Not, much, Sir." And I'm all, "That's right, *****! Now, go make me a sandwich!" And you want that kind of confidence in your weatherman!
Announcer: "Confidence." So, for earlier warnings, more accurate forecasts, count on News 4's John-John Mackey and his Storm Tracker Accu-Cast! When the weather leaves its house, John-John bangs its wife. "Confidence."
John-John Mackey: Weekdays, 7 and 11, Channel 4 Pulse News. Be there!

They are called 'sun spikes' and are also used to make sure the doppler is configured correctly (since we know exactly where the sun rise and sets.)

MY G-Shock Old school 90's Casio watch knows when the sun rises and sets. It also knows the current temperature, moon phases, etc.. I tested the G Shock by running it over w/ my truck.. It still going.. tongue.gif I remember when those watches were BIG in the 90's.
