Mitchell's Fish Market on Summit Plaza Drive in Louisville serves only fresh fish flown in daily!

If you go there call it Louie-ville or Lou-a-vul....Not Lewis-ville. Don't know much about the current conditions of the stations, but it's always been a good place to get experience...or stay forever. All the stations put out a good product, including the fox station. All have their own choppers (the kind that fly, not the bikes). All have a nice mix of young pups and seasoned vets. Strong anchors at all the stations in prime-time.

WHAS (ABC) was the long-time locally owned powerhouse. Some would say they've slipped a bit over the last several years (they're now owned by Belo.) However, it's more likely that the other stations have just caught up. WLKY (CBS) was the up and comer a few years ago and has now established itself as the top competitor to WHAS. Actually beats them in several newscasts. WAVE (NBC) is not far behind.

I'm sure some current insiders can shed more light on the market.

Outside of the stations, the city is great. It's always had nice, vibrant neighborhoods. However, now Downtown is coming around. People in the city are crazy for all sports...especially college basketball. Of course you have the Derby in May, but the city has much more to offer than the big race. If you're into the party scene you have 4th street downtown and Bardstown road in the east end. The bars stay open till 4 AM! graemlins/icon_pidu.gif

Saying it this way, gives you a hint at that third syllable, the brief '-uh-' in between the 'LOO' and 'vul' without truly voicing it fully. Never heard any locals call it 'Louie-ville', but then again I only worked there from a distance, doing local radio weather from afar for several years. smile.gif

The only person who calls Louisville "LOU-vul" is Kenny Mayne.

LOU-vul...just try it and see. :D

I lived in Lou-uh-vull for several years growing up and am still in town a few times a year.

From the standpoint of product and what I've heard about morale, I'd seek work at WDRB (FOX) or WLKY (CBS) first. Then WAVE (NBC) followed by WHAS (ABC).

When I was in town a few weeks ago, I felt the news product had lost something... Several of the long-time staffers at WHAS are gone... and I've heard horror stories about the news director.

There was some good story-telling on WAVE, but I have a hard time relating to the anchors. There's also a lot of consultant-driven jargon... such as calling reporters "investigators." That's fine for an I-Team, but I know the reporter I was watching didn't actually "investigate" the fire. It was clear the overnight photog shot it, and the reporter just added voice and stirred.

WLKY and WDRB both have the advantage of long-time anchors who do hard work and strong reporters in the field... WDRB's Chris Turner, who's pretty no-nonsense, strikes me as someone I'd trust with my news... Also, Bill Francis from 'DRB... and Steve Burgin and John Boel from 'LKY.

The city is great. There's never a shortage of things to do and interesting local places to visit. I'm happy where I'm at now, about six hours south on I-65... But if an opportunity to return to Louisville came up, I'd consider it heavily.
