I'm a TV News fanatic and have sent many letters to TV News anchors. But I've only recieved about 25% back of what I've sent? I ask in my letter for an autograph. Is there a reason for this?

In this day and age of stalkers, sending a letter to ask an anchor for an autograph is an immediate red flag. Most will ignore the request.

Your best bet is to email anchors with any questions you have and formally request autographs with the PR department.

Why would you send a letter to a news anchor asking for an autograph? I'm sure the reason they don't respond is because people like you are freaky and often times stalkers.

Oh, come on...how much trouble could it cause?

I prefer to ask anchors for an autoclave.

You never know when you may need to sterilize extra surgery instruments in a medical crisis.

I dunno, the whole notion of asking anyone for their autograph seems kind of mentally ill to me.

I mean, truly. Anchors aren't really important..anyone could do their job. As for celebrities, well, they're just people, so I don't quite crasp the concept of autographs.

The fact that there are several numbers after your name, followed by the address of the state prison, could figure into the percentage of responses you receive.

Ask them if there are any job openings instead.

I like to ask anchors if they're autotelic.

Most anchors probably won't bother writing back especially if you aren't in their market because it isn't like you would influence the ratings.

Tell me, why would you want an autograph from an anchor?! They're just a normal every day person like youself doing their job and earning a living.

All people freak me out, especially people who want autographs.

When someone asks for an autograph in person I'm embarrassed but I think it's pretty cool. However if someone emails me for an autograph I think it's creepy. If the request is in a handwritten letter it's usually from prison.

I have a mint copy of The Beatles White Album, both records in their original sleeves, unplayed, autographed by the whole band on the cover. Is that creepy? I think it's pretty sweet.

Autographs for little kids is one thing - no problem, I get it. Anchors are on TV, and they think that's cool.
Grown adults is another. Autographs from Rock Stars and movie stars, I can understand. It's a piece of memorabilia, something to prove to your buddies that you met them. Anchors you can meet at the grocery store every day - Here, please sign my steakums.

I have asked over the years to alot of stations..
got response everytime..
I often have gotten a nice letter with the pic from the person that I got a pic of...
Mostly from TWC..
One came from CNN years ago..
others have been local stations..
I have also emailed people that are on TV..They do respond back...
Some people like to connect with viewers as long as the viewer doesn't come across creepy or stalker like...
I know someone that asked for an autographed photo of a person that had left the station she watched and was in another state..She had asked for a pic months before the person left the station.Never got it..But after the person relocated, emailed them and asked them for a pic and got it... graemlins/cheers2.gif

I signed a boob once. Granted, it was before I started my news career.

I have signed two autographs in my entire career. One for an eight-year old boy, the other for a ninety-year old woman. Oh, and I was related to both of them.

This messageboard www.tvnewstalk.net (http://www.tvnewstalk.net) seems to be filled with the stalker types. "OMG There's X anchor from WXXX" I think many lurk here.

I dunno, the whole notion of asking anyone for their autograph seems kind of mentally ill to me. I mean, truly. Anchors aren't really important..anyone could do their job. As for celebrities, well, they're just people, so I don't quite crasp the concept of autographs. I've anchored in the same market for a long time and receive frequent letters, some from perfectly normal-seeming folks, some from lunatics. I have also signed hundreds of autographs; I have had people nearly faint upon seeing me. Whether you acknowledge it or not, some folks don't have a lot of excitement in their lives, and seeing even a local TV anchor is a big deal for them.

If your comment "anchors aren't really important" is actually serious, I beg to differ, based on long experience. The folks who depend upon us, particularly in difficult times (e.g., during and after natural disasters, etc.) regard their hometown anchors as vitally important.

"Anyone could do their job"??? Not very well, and not for long, I assure you.

I had a little kid (about 5) inch towards me at Applebees...then retreat. Inch towards me again...then retreat.

It appeared he had given up.

Finally, the young boy got the courage up enough to come ask me for my John Hancock. I gladly obliged...signing in not ink or pencil -- but crayon on his children's menu.

I also signed a cast of a kid once. I forgot about it...he didn't. His mom mentioned something to me recently (she's a nurse at the local clinic). She told me her son still has the cast in a bag (to keep the stink contained).

If it's okay to send a letter to an anchorman is there any problem with sending an anchor to Letterman?
