Can someone give me the scoop on Jacksonville -- the city -- living, areas, etc.

I'm checking out a property in I guess what you'd call the northern suburbs, just west of the I-95 and near the Ribault River.

I tried to PM you, but you don't have that option available. The area you talk about could possibly be pretty rough. The northside is a rough part of town (unless you are near avondale or riverside). If you have a choice, try the southside, mandarin, or the beaches.

I used to work in Jacksonville. Yea, stay away from the northside of town. You want to live in the southside or east toward the beaches. downtown's okay, i guess, if you're living in an apt and working for WJXT or first coast news. if you're working for cbs/fox, live on the southside near JTB and I95.

My folks live in J'ville, and wow has it changed through the years. The place is still the biggest small town you'll ever live in, but they have a few good restaurants now. Unfortunately they keep growing out rather than maintaining existing areas, which makes the beaches, southside and the edges of mandarin nicer. Crime seems to be an issue throughout the area though. My mother had her purse stolen on Easter and they live in the "Southside". I know a good Realtor in the area that could give you some guidance if you like.
