Spotted some interesting research recently about people who post on blogs and threads like Medialine. Wondering if you'd agree.
It's called the 90-9-1 rule
90% of users are lurkers (read, observe, don't post)
Nine percent contribute from time-to-time, but other priorities dominate their time.
One percent of users participate a lot and account for most contributions. It can seem as if they don't have lives because they often post just minutes after whatever event they're commenting on occurs.

I'm definitely a 90%.
Hold on, I just posted--now I'm a 9%.
I'll never be a 1%--this business keeps me busy.

Hey jama,
I think the study is more-or-less an "observation" rather than scientific research. However, there is such a great volume of stuff about internet usage floating around, it's very hard to tell what's REAL and what's an observation.
Appears Nielsen (Jakob, not the research firm) wrote this last fall (2006). It's mentioned in a Poynter Institute article about how journalists use Facebook for sourcing (which is a whole 'nother topic).

I'm probably part of the 1%, but that's mainly 'cause it makes for a nice way to pass the time at work.

It's probably true that we have some slackers around here who, at the very least, need to get to work increasing MediaLine's daily page views.

That is proof positive that The Mockingbird is responsible for the increased page views.
