No catty comments, please! This is a serious and legitimate inquiry.

I'm just having a very successful job search, have already turned down two offers, and news directors I haven't sent tapes to even call me at work.

Any answers on Nashville will be appreciated!

Hey "Big Time", the Nashville Farmers Market is on 8th Avenue North...

...maybe you can drop by and meet some of the little people when you're a Big TeeVee Star there!

I dont work in the Nashville market, but from what I hear, WTVF is the market leader. WKRN (2-ABC) was doing the VJ thing (may still be), and 4 is the NBC affiliate.

WTVF recently had a long-time anchor retire (41 years at the station, in fact).

Do you have to like "country music" to work in Nashville?

Yours is not, so it has not been successful.

Nashville is a very diverse city. Just spend a day or two here and you'll see. Lots of live music venues of different types, art galleries, historical sites and the like.

If you move there, you WILL encounter a higher than average concentration of Jesus freaks. Even the waitress at Shoney's will want to talk Jesus with you. Nashville is a major center of religious publishing and religious music recording for a reason. Better make finding yourself a church your first priority, because people WILL ask what church you attend and will keep pestering you about it until you commit to one.

Once again, Spike isn't telling the truth. He has this irrational fear of people who believe in God and will lie in an attempt to spread this fear. Perhaps he is Godophobic. It's obvious he knows very little about Nashville. Just another of his claims that doesn't appear to be true.

There are a lot of people in this city who are not affiliated with a church or faith tradition. And there are a lot of non-Christian groups here, too.

But I suppose Spike is happier when he's playing the victim, even if he has to lie again to do it.

I wondered if I was alone in my impression of Nashville, so I did a very quick web search and realized I'm not alone. This chick (http://www.jewcy.com/faithhacker/can_i_be_friends_with_jesus_freaks) pretty much nails the religious environment in Nashville:

"I’ve lived in some pretty strange religious environments before, but I’ve never even seen a place like this, where the trendy coffee shops are full of cute girls with cat-eye glasses, pink hair, cowboy boots, and a Bible. In bars and at shows and always always at the coffee shops where I sit to work I overhear people talking about Jesus."

There are plenty of interesting thoughts on this forum (http://www.city-data.com/forum/nashville/71948-culture-shock.html) as well:

"I'm from the northeast, and I was in culture shock! It's the over whelming religion! Super right wing evangelical conservatives. If you're not used to that, then you will see, fast. If you are used to it, then I would say you're not in for much change."

"If you have a problem with the Lord Jesus Christ, you really shouldn't be moving to TN - if you don't, then He is probabally bringing you here!! ... There's absoultely NO decission! Basically YES or NO to the Lord!"

Etc., etc.

Like I said, dust off your bible. You'll need it.

And once again, Spike is relying on faulty information. Yes, there is a large faith community in Nashville, but the information Spike is providing is bogus. He seems to be the type that's offended at the mere mention of God and he relishes playing the victim. And he doesn't know what he's talking about.

I came from the Northeast and the big difference in the faith communities in where I came from and here is the names of the houses of worship. There are more publishing companies here but that's because Nashville is a publishing center--not just religious publishing, but music publishing and so forth.

If you want to know what people in Nashville are like, come for a visit. Talk to them. Or ask people who actually live here and know something about the city as opposed to silly bloggers who obviously haven't met many people here, if they even live here to begin with. Nashville has a very diverse population.

Frontier, more to the point...

Whatever you make, your dollar will go a LOT farther in Nashville than it will anywhere in California (I noticed your previous query about Palm Springs). Housing costs half as much. Everything else is much less, too.

Check this out: http://cgi.money.cnn.com/tools/costofliving/costofliving.html?step=form&x=32&y=7

Don't just go by the dollar amount...check out the cost of living versus the offer. What seems like peanuts to you in your current city might just be a king's ransom in the offering city.

ok, thanks for the answer about the music. Now, do you have to own cowboy boots and a cowboy hat?

Usually, if you see someone in a cowboy hat and boots out and about on Music Row or in the downtown area, they're likely tourists or music biz wannabes.
