Hey all,

I'm interviewing in Huntsville, AL next week. Does anyone have an idea of the city and the lifestyle?

thanks.

I worked there for a while and I loved it. The old Apollo rocket is a sight I'll always remember the first time I visited the city - at the NASA Space Flight Center.

You can tell there are a lot of research dollars flowing through the city because there are a lot of nice places to shop and things to do for a city of its size. And, the scenery is very nice. It's nestled right in the midst of some mountains and rolling hills.

I didn't work at a station, though, so I don't know what the stations are like. I worked for Baron services which is headquartered right there in Huntsville.

Anywho, I left with a good impression of Huntsville...truly one of the nicer cities I've visited in Alabama.

Think of the most subtle and pleasant suburb in your town, and you have what most of Huntsville is.

It's not the most exciting place in the world, but there is a progressiveness that separates it from much of Alabama. Various cultures are represented in the workforce (space, engineering, military), and those cultures are also reflected in the restaurants, festivals, and other offerings of the city.

If things go well and you look for an apartment or house, you may want to stay away from "The Parkway." Memorial Parkway is a cluttered, chain-store-friendly area that I prefer to avoid. However, places along Bailey Cove Road offer reasonable rates and a pleasant view of adjacent mountains from the green valley floor. There are also nice neighborhoods right next to downtown. Madison is another option, and while cost of living is relatively low everywhere in Alabama, Madison can be a bit much compared to other neighborhoods with more character.

Or you if you like living around the "silver spoon" crowd, just move to Hampton Cove and complain about not having to send your teenaged kids "over the mountain" to go to school...

Really...Huntsville is a great place. Make sure you visit the Space & Rocket Center, and Big Spring Park.

A Stars game wouldn't hurt, either.

Huntsville is a great place, it really is...
Out of a population of about 250,000, there are 30,000 PhD's...
Newscasts used to be (and I expect still are) sponsored by Boeing and McDonnell-Douglas.
As earlier posters have mentioned, it is, at least for Alabama, very cosmopolitan. Hell, they even have a DEMOCRAT congressman...in Alabama, mind you.

I loved Huntsville...expect on payday, capiche?

Dont forget Lockheed Martin.

Oh, and the Bud Cramer Worship Center (sometimes referred to on-air as the "National Children's Advocacy Center").
