CNN Replaces Anchors on Its Flagging Morning Show
WASHINGTON POST
CNN is replacing both of its morning show anchors with recent recruits from other networks, sources familiar with the shake-up confirmed last night.
Soledad O'Brien and Miles O'Brien are out at "American Morning," which has struggled recently in the ratings. The pair, who are not related, will make way for John Roberts, a former CBS anchor and correspondent, and Kiran Chetry, who recently jumped to CNN from Fox News.
CNN has eyed Roberts as a possible morning anchor from the time he left CBS last year. Roberts, who had been Dan Rather's regular substitute on the "CBS Evening News," has filled in frequently as an anchor on "American Morning," "Anderson Cooper 360" and other programs, and regularly hosts the weekend show "This Week at War."

Remember when Soledad was brought in from "another network" and Miles was secretly transferred to New York (without too many people at CNN knowing about it) ?
Wonder if this pairing will be "the one" or just the latest one in the series...

Looks like Soledad just found out that life can be tough when you stop becoming the hottie of the month.
This business is very tough on middle aged moms. This is one of the few businesses I know where a million dollar gig can quickly put you to the back of the unemployment line.

Maybe she'll go back to hosting a show with Dev Null, her comptuer generated sidekick from MSCBC. I hear he is unemployed, too!

And what I don't understand, News managers are replacing seasoned women journalist with young blondiful wannabees who don't have much going for them other than a pretty face and maybe a nice set of....and they think people are going to watch men especially)
I liked Soledad. Hope she winds up somewhere that will put her talent and skills to good use.

It was all journalism.

She mainly benefitted from her Harvard education.
She is not now, nor was she before, in the "hot" category.
She'll be fine.

Excuse me if I'm mistaken, but I don't believe Soledad is unemployed. Hardly. It sounds like she ended up with a pretty nice gig.

CNN is just constantly changing their anchors and show lineups. I'm not sure why they think Kiran Chetry is the answer...she wanted to become the morning anchor on Fox News and they weren't interested. CNN can't succeed by hiring anchors who couldn't cut it on Fox News...you don't catch the #1 by gobbling up the second-rate talent they get rid of.

Kiran co-hosted the 1st hour of Fox & Friends and also co-hosted the Weekend Edition. Calling her second rate might not be entirely accurate.

She'll be fine.Let's get serious here. Her Harvard education probably didn't do THAT much for her.
In reality, it was more her pleasing cafe' au lait looks and the minority role she played for the nets when she was climbing the anchor ladder.
Granted, she may be a talented journalist, but those seem to be a dime a dozen in this business. However, talented journalists who fit the right minority spot, and have the best of looks from both races -- that's a million dollar contract.

Just like blond on f and f will soon be gone...and she hasnt been on there long. Shake ups happen..all driven by numbers. CNN wants news in the morning and I can live with that. FNC wants a circus in the mornings...and most of the day really.

She was clearly in command, was anything but an airhead, and treated everyone with respect. (I stayed onsite more than an hour after the live interview, and watched how she interacted.)
The comments above are more than a little classless.

Soledad was a raging reverse racist and was very public in her interviews about riding the affirmative action train to her position at CNN. She even went so far in one interview as to admitting that she knew she wasn't qualified when she first got the job. It was highly offensive to all ethnic groups and serious journalists and I'm glad she is gone.

</font>[/QUOTE]From Wikipedia:
Her father Edward, an Australian ( from Toowoomba, Australia of Irish descent, was a mechanical engineering professor. Her mother Estella, an Afro-Cuban (double minority points scored here), was a French and English teacher. Soledad is the fifth of six kids, who all graduated from Harvard University.
Despite her partial Latina heritage, O'Brien doesn't speak Spanish fluently as do so many newsers who are riding the affirmative action wave. That has resulted in some awkward exchanges with people who assume she does, including former vice-president Al Gore.
And, of course, here is the most important part...
She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
I believe she has hit the affirmative action jackpot.
