Tonight, all of the big three network news shows LED with the Don Imus story.....are you freakin' kidding me!?
This is the most important "news" that "serious" news shows can come up with!? It really is unbelievable.....because the Imus story is a RIDICULOUS, NON-IMPORTANT, IRRELEVANT story. Discuss.
News Is Broken

Well.....
including this thread, there are EIGHT threads on Medialine alone devoted to this "irrelevant" topic. I assume various other messageboards around the nation and around the world have a similar tally. People are talking about it around me here at work. I assume that's also happening around various watercoolers around the nation as I type this. Therefore it isn't too much of a stretch to lead with this story, since, you know, like the whole country is talking about it and stuff... graemlins/eusa_whistle.gif

No.
IF the "whole country" is talking about this Imus thing, it's only BECAUSE the networks are jamming it down their throats.
Interestingly, Imus made the comments last week. It wasn't until network news MADE it news that the "whole country" started talking about it.

Well, I think that has to do with the fact that not everybody listens to Imus (whether they can't or choose not to) so the networks simply informed folks of what he said. The outcry came from the public in the form of letters to the editor, and calls to talk radio.

I was very surprised by how much time NBC spent on the story. It was a LOT of coverage. I guess just to make sure no one call foul or favoritism. Same thing goes for CBS I suppose.

Oh! I'm sure a "bigger" story will happen in a few days and the Imus story will fade.

Imus picked the wrong week to be the flavor of the week.
