Even though the temperatures have fallen, the ice on many bodies of water is not thick enough to support vehicles.
A crew for a local television station drove its news truck onto a channel to Big Muskeo Lake Sunday and broke through the ice. Crews for WDJT-TV in Milwaukee were reportedly shooting a story about thin ice when the truck fell through. The driver reportedly mistook the channel for a road when the accident happened.
The truck was approximately 150 yards off the boat launch, according to a release issued by the City of Muskego Police Department.
The driver of the truck was the sole occupant and was able to get out without injury, but the truck remains partially submerged.

A lot of people drive on frozen lakes up here to go ice fishing...usually if the ice is 12-24" thick you could get away with it in a car or light truck...but I can't imagine the ice ever getting thick enough to take something as heavy as a live truck across.

The driver must be related to those who drive Sat trucks into hurricane areas and then wonder why their dish gets ripped off!!

How could you mistake a frozen lake for a road? I don't recall many roads having boating docs randomly next to it.

Imagine, for a moment, being that guy and having to walk into work the next day ... if there's any justice, they decorated his desk/locker with floaties, lifesavers etc.

It was the middle of the day.
SHE thought it was just a frozen road...and, here in Wisconsin, when seeing Snowmobiles and ATV's driving on these "roads" it's possible.
The dock was probably was covered and barely visible.
I don't work for WDJT...I did several years ago. If things are the way they were..then that's their only truck.
So...do you fire the photographer?

In the video, you can see shrubs on each side of the channel, just like around a road. There were tire tracks running out along the channel where ATVs had been driven, all along the same path, like a road. And there was a layer of snow over everything.
Day or night wouldn't have mattered. She was trying to get to the lake and saw what looked like a road going that direction. She was unfamiliar with the area. It could just as easily have happened to you.

So...do you fire the photographer?I don't think so...As long as she does not have a history of destroying company property, chalk it up to the weather.
Just hope your insurance company has a quick turn around.

So...do you fire the photographer?Just one live truck for the CBS affiliate in Milwaukee? Really?
And no, you don't fire the photog, unless there's a history of careless accidents there.

CBS 58 became a CBS affiliate in 1994 after the "Big Switch" nationwide.
Weigel owns them and they put little money into the news operation...satisfying the basic requirement from the network.
Yes...one live truck.
In 1998, when the Crane, Big Blue, fell at Miller Park and killed 3 iron workers...their station is the closest...about a mile away..
They didn't get on the air with a live till 7:00PM...the crane fell at 5:17PM and the other stations were already in constant coverage with their choppers.
CBS 58 doesn't really compete in that market...it's somewhat sad.
But, many of the people that work there are dedicated and hard workers and good people just trying to make a living. I feel for them right now. Some of the best photogs I ever worked with still work there...it's unfortunate their hard work isn't seen by many.
