Are ND's asking for VHS or DVD or both? Is it 50/50 or are DVD's starting to overtake VHS.
Just trying to get a feel for what I need to have available.
Also... sorry if this question has been recently answered - I usually stick to the "nerd" side of ML, but thought y'all could help out.
Danke!

They're asking for whatever the job posting says... If it says send VHS, then do it... if it says send a DVD, send it. If it says send either a DVD or VHS then send whichever one you have handy to put in the mail.
I would imagine most ND's don't have DVD players in their offices yet.

WalMart - I understand "what" to send based on the ad... I'm just trying to decide if I should order 10 VHSs/10 DVDs, 5 DVDs/15 VHSs, etc...

Ah... I see. I'd lean toward the 5 DVD's/15 VHS. I'd say the VHS ratio for ND's still isn't quite that high, but it doesn't help to be prepared.

I've seen a request for one DVD every three VHS tapes. A lot of job openings say send a tape, so I go the safe route and send a VHS, not a DVD.

If the ad says send DVC Pro or M2 - run away.

I would go with 1 DVD and 19 VHS. If you have a DVD burner and a printer, you can always make more copies of the original DVD. . .while making copies of your original VHS degrades the quality.

ND's want 3/4 since that was in vogue the last time a consultant had an original idea.

Future of tv resume tapes are sites like medialine, rollcue.tv and digitaltalent where your material and resume is posted professionally and CLEAN. Sending a hiring manager to youtube.com/eastcoastproducer that plays your poor-quality video next to video recommendations and ads isn't going to score points.
Sending them to www.eastcoastproducer.com (http://www.eastcoastproducer.com) or the talent showcase or your cleanly-designed sites via rollcue.tv or digitaltalent is a MUCH better idea. I don't know the specifics on each of those sites, but if it offers you to show supplemental video in addition to your official resume tape, that's even better.

As someone else said, if a ND today can't play a DVD then that is a station you don't want to play WITH

I was there for three months and hired an anchor, a reporter and a producer as well as an associate producer who did not stay.
My procedure was to go through all the VHS tapes first... later, if time allowed, I would look at DVDs.
Some of the DVDs would not play in my computer, and those went into the circular file. ALL of the VHS tapes played just fine, and I did not have to figure out menus.
So, ask yourself this - do you want your work looked at first, or last? I can tell you this: If I found someone I liked on the VHS tapes, I was in no hurry to view the DVDs.
None of the people I hired were hired from DVDs. The anchor was hired after I viewed her work online.

This is probably because they only want to get an *idea* of what you look like and how you do, and then they ask for you to send a tape/DVD almost every time. Online access to your tape is online access to your tape. Though if I had to do it again, depending on the cost, I would probably go with one of the services you mentioned, partly because I would imagine an ND who sees "watch my tape at www.youtube.com/northernmet" ( http://www.youtube.com/northernmet") is going to think "YOUNG".
