A story out of Reuters today was headlined this way:
"Gunman shoot dead judge."
SO I got to ask...why shoot him if hes already dead? graemlins/face_banghead.gif

Hhmmm ... I wonder what the headline writer meant?
*Gunman shoots (the)judge dead?
*Gunman Shoots Dead (the) Judge
*Gunman Shoots; Judge Dead
*GunMEN Shoot (the) Judge Dead
*Gunmen Shoot Dead (the) Judge
*Gunmen Shoot; Judge Dead.

Here's a link to the story in question:
Gunmen shoot dead Hamas judge at Gaza courthouse (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061213/wl_nm/palestinians_dc_33)
Note that several other agencies headlined the story "Gunmen shoot dead a judge," which takes away the ambiguity. Reuters screwed themselves by deleting the article.
