General Questions:

What is the usual time frame for a ND to call you back about the job?

How long should you wait before taking another job smile.gif ?

Between 2 and 5pm.

1. The usual is for them never to call you back, especially if they say they are going to.

2. Thus the best time to move on to the next effort is now.

Although news directors are nice diplomatic people, many are just full of crap! They hardly answer emails to and from reporters who work for them, and they usually say they aint answering because they're just "busy."

There's never really a set time-frame for them to call back. There are a ton of reasons why they don't.

It took my ND a month to call me back after he said he would to offer a contract. When the dude finally did call, he told me I could move to town at my own pace, but within a month. (I thought yeah, laid back!)

My answer to you: Call until they tell you to leave them the hell alone. A lot of times, you can ask around and discover they already hired someone else.

Good luck in your search.

How long should you wait before taking another job smile.gif ?1/ It can vary wildly. One ND may have a dire need to fill a spot. They like your tape, call you up and tell you to get there asap. Others may take months. It just depends.
2/ I need clarification here. How long should you wait to take a job at station B if you've already interviewed at station A? Or how long after you've sent a tape to station A? If it's after an interview, contact station A's ND and discuss the situation. If it's after sending a tape to station A, wait no more than .5 seconds to get going to station B.
Does that make any sense?

And check want ads. I see three posted today that were filled last week, so that's another way to find out when you've been dealt another load of job-seeking graemlins/bs.gif

To be fair, not all jobs that are posted have already been filled. I know plenty of very attractive on-air job openings that have been posted on station websites for months that are still valid. Sometimes a news director or general manager has bigger things to worry about than watching a stack of resume tapes - anyone who has worked in the business knows that if all management did was watch tapes of prospective job candidates, nothing would get done. Ever.

My point is if you don't have a job in the business right now, you've gotta be patient. Things will happen at their own pace. And keep your head up.
