Anyone have any information about the market/stations/quality of life in Sioux City? What kind of news do the stations cover there? Any information would be helpful

The last time I was there and landed at the airport....I thought I saw a ghost walking around in the cornfield next to the runway. Scared the heck out of me.

It's the worst smelling town I've ever driven through. Seriously. There are tons of stock yards and unless you love the smell of beef rendering, I'd stay clear or invest in mucho clothespins for your nose.

I was reading this about one of the flight survivors and something that happened right before the crash.
Jan Brown Lohr - United 232's Senior Flight Attendant. She was forced by regulation to ask parents with "lap babies" (children without seats) aboard flight 232 to place their children on the cabin floor during the flight's final moments before impact. Upon impact one of four children was killed. The deceased child's mother came to her at the crash site and stated "You told me to put my baby on the floor and now he's gone." Since then, Lohr has tirelessly lobbied in Washington D.C. to promote the safety of children on all civilian aircraft and airlines, asking that federal regulations require all children to have a seatbelt on every flight.[8]
I would have told the flight attendant to go to hell right then and there. graemlins/face_banghead.gif

While you could have told the attendant to "Go to Hell" and held your baby, the force from impact would probably have caused you to crush your baby - either in your arms or against the seat in front of you.
Remember, 3 of the 4 survived.

I worked there and yeah, the town STINKS. The John Morrell plant on I-29 in particular REEKS something awful.

You can't say that I would have killed the baby or crushed it. Who knows what would have happened if the babies had been held in reality. Who knows if they baby that died would have lived if it had been held orf it would have mattered at all. All I know is that I want control of my children and holding them in case it was the last moments of any of our lives.

You know the old saying -
"My girl told me to kiss her where it stinks, so I took her to Sioux City!"
Couldn't resist. They call is "Sewer City" for a reason.
But those that gripe about the smell obviously ain't smelled money before.

And would you be able to live the fact that you squeezed the life(accidentally)outta your kid? I don't think any answer is wrong, but 3 of 4 survived. Could have been 4 of 4, or 0. I'd have wanted my kid(if I had one)in my arms, but I can't guarantee I wouldn't accidentally kill him/her....and if I didn't, and someone had instructed me to do otherwise....I'd crash-myself for the rest of my life.

I would have told the flight attendant to go to hell right then and there. graemlins/face_banghead.gif Ditto that! If I'm on a plane that's getting ready to crash, my baby boy or my baby girl are in my arms! For the comfort and support through the tragedy if nothing else. I agree... no way to know what might happen no matter where the child is upon impact.

The only city that I can think of that could possibly smell worse is Tacoma, WA . . .
Sewer City, IA vs. The Aroma of Tacoma, WA

Regarding the smell... it could be a lot worse. It's only if the wind is in the right direction as your driving by on I-29.

To answer the original posters question.
Sioux City is a good starter market. The cost of living will not be too bad. KTIV is the dominant station. Sioux City regularly feeds people to the Omaha and Des Moines markets and occasionally someone hits a homer and goes to the twin cities.
Last time I looked it was market 143.
