Why can't folks just answer the freakin' question?! Here's what I know: First, a disclaimer. "It all depends..." on market size, competition, geographic location, ratings (sometimes), experience, ownership, blah blah blah. But, a few years ago, I heard from a photog I trust that a mid 20s market (FOX station, but good ratings) who said it's close to $50k. However, the standard photogs there made closer to $30k. My understanding, too, was that top photogs in the market at the "big three" made a bit more. Hope that helps.

It is highly variable.
But, here is a resource that might help.

The info is fairly reliable. A chief would probably make somewhere in the top 25 percent of that range.
I hope that is of some help.

define "medium".
I've heard that term bandied about so much, used to describe everywhere from a 50s market to a 130s market.

In a mid 60's market about $45K and all the $$$$ from the equipment you can pawn on the side.

Another variable- The salary will go up considerably if its a union market.
