I grew up for part of my youth in Europe (England/France) and would love to live back there again. I don't know much about British/Other European broadcast outlets. I'm in sports, and would like to stay there, though wouldn't be averse to moving out from in front of the camera- is it even feasible? Do they hire from the states?

Anyone with any experience in Britain or France would be appreciated.

Well, you're going to have to get used to calling it "Sport" and not "sports" for one thing.

Next to impossible. Not impossible, but next to. I have one American woman who worked for me and spent two years trying to crack the BBC. Finally made it a month ago. If you want to get in touch with her, drop me a line.

Yep... nearly impossible for an American unless you go with a smaller international gig like I did (based in Turkey).

Try CNN or one of the networks. See if they need an American in one of the bureaus.

Thanks for the thoughts and advice- might be just a dream, but it has to start somewhere...

Seems like here in the US it's actually a benefit in some areas to be 'foreign' or to have an accent. I hear UK English accents, Australian and European accents on radio and TV a great deal. I don't think I have seen or heard an American accent on those foreign networks (and I do listen to and watch a lot of foreign stuff). I think the foreign sound of accents for us is a positive, I don't believe that other nations feel the same way about an American accent and that may be a problem for on-air at least.

It's not just for on air talent... but behind scenes stuff too. Overseas people, including CNN, tend to use people from overseas.

You might also talk to Deutsche Welle. They are the German equivalent of VOA, but they have an English language service based in Cologne or Berlin, I think. They hire Americans.
