It's pretty clear why we're so far ahead of the usual presidential timetable. With no vice-president anointed as the incumbent party candidate, the GOP field is open. And the Dems are trying to recover from two blown opportunities.

So we get this bombardment about 10 months early.

Frankly, I think it's a good thing this time around. Since even if they round up the increasingly immense dough, candidates still have to prove themselves in the public forum. And since so many of the candidates are 'former' whatevers, that seems to be the only forum voters will get.

Actually, it does seem strange to have such a crowded field with only a few current elected officials running. Maybe that will allow us folks in the media to analyze and inform about who the rest of the millionaire candidates are sponsored by and beholden to.

Moving the primaries in some states has made sense for years and is way overdue, anyone who saw how meaningless primaries had become in some of the most populated states would probably agree. Now if we could just get something accomplished about the antiquated electoral system...
