Does anyone know how the stations there are? Ratings? People? Shows? Who leads in the mornings and at ten?
Thanks

WTMJ4 has been the market leader for decades
WISN is #2
WITI is #3
WDJT is a VERY distant #4

I enjoy shopping the Milwaukee Public Market when not competing with kids hired from Quincy.

I could go into a real tirade, but I'll just leave you with this.... WDJT asked me if I was interested in a visit to the station to interview for a sports job last fall... then asked me to pay for the plane ticket.

That does not surprised me at all. I interviewed for a job there around 5 years ago. Although they paid for my plane ticket, I thought it was a low-rent operation.

Photog friend of mine works at ITI, he says despite the fact it's a Fox affil, it's a pretty good station... of course it was a CBS affil for years too which is how many news viewers got started on watching their casts.

WTMJ is 3rd place in mornings now and regularly get beat at 5 and 6pm by WISN. They still win 10pm, but the lead over WISN is razor thin. WDJT is 4th place, but there are certain nights where their 10pm gets better ratings than WISN and WTMJ (mostly due to strong CBS programming and/or weaker ABC/NBC programming).
WITI is very solid. Typical Fox O and O station. Their show opens are a little too goofy and overdramatic for my tastes.

Not sure about the ratings... but Milwaukee is one helluva cool town. The people are among the nicest you will meet.
Granted I have only visited in WARM months... but always had a great time when I was there.

I loved Milwaukee... great town!
As far as the stations go, WISN is now #1 across the board, WTMJ has gone through some major changes, including the departure of its main anchor. WISN recently got a new GM and ND. The old ones got bumped up the Hearst chain. The Fox is highly competitive and owns the 7-9 AM slot. It's also an O&O. I would avoid CBS-58 at all costs. This is an extremely competitive market that plays a lot bigger than its number.

Ah Madison... have a brew on State Street for me. GREAT town. To visit, maybe. Been here for a few years and I'm still baffled why people love it so much.

Lens,
Trust me, I WILL be having several brews on State Street. I'll toast you before one of the many.
Quinn,
I love Madison. Not sure I'd want to live there. Too damn cold.

I rent because I never intended to stay. If I wanted to buy in my neighborhood, I could get a 3bd, 3ba home with about 2,000 sq feet built in the last several years for about $220,000. I'm 10 minutes from downtown and near a few parks and a brand new shopping area. If you get into the $350k-$400k range you'd be amazed at how far that will go here.

College towns and/or state capitals are usually more expensive places to live. It's a seller's market, for both sales and rentals.

Expensive compared to what stations pay! Some of stations there pay just enough to make rent...barely.

If you want to make low $20s to start as a reporter at WKOW go for it. Madison is expensive, try buying a home or condo making low 20s. Not gonna happen.

Not gonna happen.Okay... name somewhere you CAN buy a home or condo making low 20s. The problem is the TV news payscale. As much as I would like to blame Madison, the city isn't at fault.
I have been renting a 1200 sq foot 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment. It's a nice 5-year old building with a nice pool and gym. I can walk to the grocery store, a coffee shop and the dry cleaners. I pay a whopping $780 which includes $20 for underground parking.
I'm married so the rent is no problem. If I were single I wouldn't need all this space so I could find a smaller place in the $500-$600 range. Even on my crappy TV news salary I could handle that.
Sure, it costs more to live here than it does in Kirksville, MO. But not much more.

Lot's of cities besides Madison in markets around 70-100 have MUCH more affordable housing. Then again some are higher. I'm just saying Madison is expensive for the Midwest and research things before taking a job. I do know for a fact that the pay is better at WISC & WMTV in Madison.

It's expensive compared to other cities that size in population... I did plenty of checking before I moved there and before I left. The Milwaukee suburbs didn't strike me as cheap either. That state may seem cow pasture midwest to those who drive through it... but they tax the hell out of property owners... at least a lot more than the 4 states I've lived/worked in.
Pay at the Milw. stations might be good, all I know is I chuckled out loud when the ND at WDJT told me the salary for the position I was up for.
For Madison the pay (other than for a main anchor job) won't get you much as far as living.
