Here's their contact info, give them a call in Iowa and ask to whom you should send a tape.

http://www.magid.com/company_info/contact_us.asp

I don't think it ever hurts to send them a tape. They may do absolutely nothing for you then again they may help land you a job. Either way you're out about 4 bucks.

But they can't find everyone so it can't hurt to let them know you're available. Even if they have contacted you, it's good to give them newer and/or better stuff than they might have collected on their own.

Take it as a compliment. Your station's competition thinks you're good and they'd like to see you move onward and upward and out of the market.

But they have little followthrough. And for some reason they constantly want me to move to Chattanooga, TN -- which, while it's pretty, it ain't my end of the South.

And they're crap on returning phone calls.

Your mileage, though, may vary.

i'm in touch, so you be in touch

Southern Guy - did you ever think about simply calling Magid and asking the receptionist who is in charge of talent?

they arent supposed to return phone calls. They arent your agent. You arent paying them.
You send a tape..they put it on the reel.. and you dont talk to them again...

Save your postage. They don't work for you, they put you on the reel that gets looked at by stations that are signed with Magid. So if you get a job because of them, you'll be happy.... for a while. Then you'll realize that working at a shop that has Magid as it's consultant is not very fun.

That's like the gospel to that chick. Try it and tell me it doesn't get a nice warm giggle from her.

I don't think she liked the tape I sent that had a package on Packers post game... another on a Badgers Outback Bowl wrapup... and live shots from the MLB all-star game and NLCS in 2003.

Funny, two ND's in a top 15 market hired me with the same tape.

Save your money
If you're on TV, Magid has you on tape. They pay people in every market to record newscasts. They have a library with thousands of video resumes.

When a Magid ND needs talent he calls them up and tells them what he is looking for, price range, etc.

Within moments he has four or five possibilities. These people don't even know they are being shopped.

Having said that, the goal for Magid is to help their client stations and hurt the competition so the only tapes the Magid ND is sent are from competitors.

The ND has to then figure out a way to get resumes from other Magid stations.

That's the way it works and it's all very quiet.
