The guy who made that was clearly on some 70's hallucinogenic drugs. I imagine if you were seriously stoned, you'd get quite a trip watching that.

Damn -- Just read the first post and instantly started singing, "It makes no difference who you are." SCARY that my instant-retrieval mechanism had that at the ready -- and I didn't even live in Cleveland!

I had no idea George Costanza's mother used to anchor the news in Cleveland.

How about the beginning of a WIS-TV Newscast. Circa 1975! Thanks, Youtube related links!

WIS-TV Newscast Intro 1975 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6hGpS9j-Ok&mode=related&search=)

The Columbia City Council had a full agenda when it met today: Joe Lilli has a report. Wow, that's quite possibly the lamest lead to the lead story ever. Was ALL TV News that lame in '75?

Speaking of which, nothing says quality News Intro like b-roll of rapid off the shoulder pans and zooms of buildings.

Also: props for the orange shag carpeting on the news set. graemlins/eusa_shifty.gif

The One and Only (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smbBnW6h9fQ)When the singers say, "The one and only TV-10," the melody they use is the same as the musical signature in the "One and Only" news music package that Gari launched on this station in the early 90s...

More very 70s music in this one: WBRC 1979 Open (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCbbbpkXG6c)

Another good one from Birmingham (three of the four talent are still on Birmingham airwaves): WVTM 1981 Open (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKLV9OmtDyg)

Also, they were #1 in Memphis, but here's a truly laughable open from WMC-TV. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuiSExmZtq0)

Man, I'm such a dork...

Here is some stuff from the ABC affil in Tulsa (KTUL). Scroll down the page to look at the video clips of some of the 70s and 80s promos. The "8's The Place" was one of the most popular campaigns I think in the history of Tulsa TV. People were going nuts over that all over eastern Oklahoma. I remember having the stickers for it. I also remember many of their newscasts ending with video montages of people doing their thing to get on "8's The Place".

Laz,

Yeah, the Hambrick hit had me curious too. Seems like he's helping with his son Jack's new project:

Wow. I grew up watching Cleveland news. Thanks for the blast from the past.
Anyone have a link to the old Morning Exchange open with the train and the percolating coffee pot? :D

As a kid, I went to a Bette Midler concert at Blossom Center, outside of Cleveland. One of her local color jokes was that she got her stage wardrobe "at Dot Fuldheim's garage sale."
