a breathless veronica de la cruz on cnn just teased an upcoming story on two missing U.S. soldiers: "and the latest on two missing soldiers in Iraq... is the news good or bad? the latest on this story coming up..."

if that tease doesn't give you warm fuzzies about his business, i don't know what will.

I'm old school, but I hate questions in headlines, leads and even teases. It's not a quiz show.

I like when FOX tells me I won't believe what's coming up.

I take them at their word and change channels.

I was taught MANY years ago, never to use a question in a tease or headline. It just invite viewers to answer it for themselves.

For example:
Anchor: Will you be paying more at the pump?
Viewer: Hell yes, when AREN'T I?
Better: Find out what you'll be paying at the pump starting tomorrow.

Anchor: Has candidate Jones gained any ground in his race for Mayor?
Viewer: Who cares?
Better: See who is celebrating and who is disputing the latest poll in the Mayor's race.

All teases make all anchors sound ridiculous. They all (teases, not anchors) should be banned.

How about when an anchor says something like, "Why do gas prices continue to rise? We ask the tough questions ... tonight at 11."

Translation: We ask the questions but don't get any answers but at least watch us ask the questions tonight at 11. graemlins/eusa_doh.gif

MSNBC has a banner up all the time touting The Very Latest.

I must be getting old.
I can remember when just having The Latest was enough.

I learned teases should never ask a question. They should make the viewer ask the question. (Other than "What the F#$% was that?!)
