Then start with Phoenix. What are salaries like in that market?

In Phoenix, there are reporters who make 35K

In Phoenix, there are reporters who make 60K

As with all silly questions like this, there is no answer. There is no such thing as "top 15" salary, let alone "a Phoenix" salary. It depends on how much you are making now, how badly they think you want to work there and how much the person before you in this exact position you would be filling made.

What if you are currently making $47000 per year, they want you 11% more than the current candidate, and the position you are filling made $58000 per year? Oh, and you are actually the stations second choice. They had someone hired, but that person decided to leave the business to take over his fathers payday loan business. They wanted this person 4% more than you, but are certainly glad to have a backup plan like yourself.

My advice: Take the job in minny!

Let me say this: Phoenix tends to pay in "sunshine," if you can figure that one out. I know writers in top 10 markets that make more than most producers in Phoenix. I'd be cautious about Minneapolis, it depends which station you're going for. There are at least 2 I'd avoid right. The market isn't nearly what it used to be.
