While watching the Cowboys preseason game last night, I happened upon this promotional garb from FOX...

BTW, if you haven't checked out FOX's site for this show...it's...interesting...

They could have at least found an attractive model for the show. Her face looks like a melted Barbie doll!

Yet another cheap shot to our already diminishing credibility. Nobody thinks of taking a swinsuit model and giving her a try at being a brain surgeon, a firefighter or what have you. But a news anchor, damn that would be funny.
No wonder a growing portion of the public sees us as shallow, mindless idiots who read words for a living.
Maybe the show will reveal that a pretty face and a cute giggle won't get you to the big chair, but considering how campy the promos are that's highly unlikely to happen. graemlins/face_banghead.gif

Granted it's small market USA....there's no way I could work at the station after that fiasco. But I'm guessing the station was already in the crapper if they agreed to such a joke.

But Cake, didn't the Angels just hire a caveman to be a utility infielder? How, oh, how will you balance your hate of cavemen and your love of angels? :D (The above post is sarcasm. Apparently there are those on this board who don't get it. Not you Cake. Your cool, even if your Angels beat my team again tonight!)

Let's see. We have "holier than thou" "journalists" griping because some bubble-headed beauty queen is anchoring. Stop with the whining. It's been happening in tv news since the beginning of time. Why complain now? Just ask any consultant!!!

I couldn't agree more. We have the easiest jobs in the world. But we are so protective of them we act like it's brain surgery. She'll be fine. And people will watch. And that my friends is the idea of TV news.

I watched the show. The camera work was good, but the whole thing was fake, fake, fake.
The premise could have been fun...but it was so scripted, it was more like an amateur sitcom then a reality show.
Small market news is a wacky adventure, but this made "making news, texas style" look like "All the President's Men"

I liked the show -- the whole hour of it. Maybe it's because I'm in the business that I liked it, but I think FOX pulled it off.
Some things are obviously manipulated just a smudge ... Lauren's definitely putting on a show for the cameras, but she picked up reading pretty quickly and did well on her first show after a week of practice. (C'mon... her dancing and acting goofy while in the background during a newsroom liveshot was funny! admit it! even if it was likely on purpose. smile.gif )
I think those who in this thread and those in the newsroom of KYTX upset that someone with no experience is working in the newsroom need to remember that it's TYLER, TEXAS. market #111. It's a BEGINNER market. That's where kids with no experience go for their first gigs, assuming they couldn't land anything in a bigger market.
And with regards to those complaining on the show about their credibility --- they have STORMY THE WEATHER DOG! And he's in their show open! A weather dog is okay but someone with no pro experience is not?
I do have to say, though, that their newsroom is nicer than many much larger markets that I've worked in or visited. I suspect the brand-spanking new computers with LCD monitors, the brand-spanking new news vehicles and the non-linear just might be a donation by FOX.
I did wonder though during the show -- can anyone suppose why they blurred out whomever was standing in the middle of the billboard for the station? I assume it's because the guy wouldn't sign a release to FOX, but the billboard was shot on public property. They also blurred the face of one reporter (I assume) during the morning meeting toward the end of the show.

I agree that this takes away any credibility that is left in local TV news, but lets talk about the real star of the show, Stormy the Weather Dog. A dog that does the weather...you have got to be kidding me. That is just great television. And we wonder why they had bad ratings before the new anchorwoman.
Here is Stormy's bio:
Just a little over 2 months ago a little pup was found abandoned along a road near Lindale. Today he is one of stars of CBS 19’s evening newscasts. Stormy The Weather Dog will begin appearing on CBS 19’s 5, 6 and 10pm newscasts along with Chief Meteorologist Doc Deason, November 3rd.
During the 5pm newscast Stormy’s wardrobe will help Deason deliver his nightly weather forecast to viewers. If the weather dog is wearing a sweater viewers will know they are in store for a cool weather forecast. If Stormy is dressed in a parka, those tuning in will know it is time to bundle up.
At 6 and 10pm the dog will at times accompany the CBS 19 meteorologist as he delivers his weathercast. At the end of the weather segment Stormy will emerge from his doghouse to push a button to activate his evening “Dog Walking Forecast”. This will inform viewers graphically what the weather will be like as they take an evening stroll with their own pampered pet.
Stormy was rescued by CBS 19 General Manager Phil Hurley from the Smith County Humane Society shelter. The idea to save a dog came to Hurley after he saw a station news report about the startling number of animals being destroyed each day at the shelter.
The thought to take Stormy to air as part of the weather team was formulated by Hurley after he saw Houston’s NBC television station, KPRC, make a similar move. He hopes Stormy’s adoption will encourage others to save the life of a dog while at the same time publicizing the good work of the Humane Society. Hurley plans to use the weather dog in future fundraisers for the shelter.
In October nearly 3000 viewers voted in CBS 19’s Name the Dog contest. When the voting ended, the “four legged forecaster” had been given the name Stormy by local dog lovers. Since then, the weather dog has had the run of CBS 19 studios as he awaits his daily obedience schooling from a Petsmart trainer. Petsmart is donating veterinary care, training, grooming, food, clothing and quarters for Stormy.
Stormy is available for public appearances with Doc Deason for you local civic clubs and events by calling CBS 19’s Community Relations Director, Jeradee Zips at 903-581-2211 or emailing her at jzips@cbs19.tv .

I knew that much of the show was faked when the production guys were betting each other five dollars that she would crash and burn. Everybody knows that the production guys in Tyler don't have that kind of money to bet they need the money for food and shelter.
On a lighter note I hope all the "real" people who have decided to make Tyler their home got a nice check from Fox and may be able to put some of it away for their kids college or a down payment on a house they might not have been able to afford before.
The credibility of TV news was dead anyway. I just hope some of the worker bees made some cash for once.

those complaining about the damage to journalism's credibility should stop. journalism is, frankly and sadly, an easy major and easy profession. you don't have to be intelligent, just not completely stupid. this not only goes for on-air folks but also other newsroom personnel. there are no two newsrooms in the country that would agree on how to cover a story. journalism claims objectivity but uses subjective rules, and that conflict is its greatest flaw - even without the pressures of ratings and advertising.
there needs to be a set of strict rules and procedures for licensing journalists, like those for doctors and lawyers, etc....i was a director for years, and the problem isn't just small market. i worked in san diego and los angeles with grads from ucla, annenberg, walter cronkite and medill, and i can count the competent ones on one hand and not use all my fingers. i still admire journalism's ideal of veracity, but it's practitioners are hardly above this girl.

I actually rather liked it. I thought if nothing else it showed how important LIGHTING is.. you compare the ousted 5pm anchor on their (crappy small market) air.. and then under Fox's interview lights.. and it's night and day.
Can you imagine what a disaster this is for that station -- not only do they piss off all of Tyler Texas and make them look bad, the total national exposure is ONE EPISODE.
An attempt to raise ratings creates a show that is cancelled.. for low ratings.

Well, I just watched it. I had low expectations, but I thought it was absolutely hilarious. I'm sad that it got canceled.
With the exception of Roger the asst. ND and Michele the reporter, every other person came out looking like an idiot. That station is a disaster. If I worked there, I would be worried about the having the stink of that on me when I tried to find a new job.

You want some interesting reading, check out the message board (http://forums.fox.com/foxanchorwoman/start) on the Fox site for this show. There's plenty of crap from regular viewers, but there are also quite a few people commenting who seem to actually work in Tyler and have things to say about the show. One poster says the station had a viewing party to watch the show when it aired, and everyone came away rather angry with how they had been portrayed.
Please oh please let Fox post the rest of the episodes on its website...

I logged onto Fox.com today to see if Anchorwoman was posted on Fox on Demand. The page on fox.com still promotes "see if she makes it on Fox On Demand", but anchorwoman has been removed from the F.O.D. menu. I'm a bit bummed, anyone know if that was the last that we saw of anchorwoman?
