Another local killed in Iraq described in the lead as a 'hero.' Meaning no disrespect, but isn't that term reserved for doing something extraordinary?

I'd say being in a volunteer military makes you a hero.

Paying taxes that are due, raising kids the best that one is able, or stopping your life (even if it is only intentionally a pause) to serve your country is heroic.
It ain't sexy, but it is heroic.

The fact that this question is even being raised is ridiculous. Does signing up for the military and ultimately sacrificing your life while serving your country make you a hero??? Of course it does!!

Yes, they're heroes. Especially to the insurgents.

I stand corrected Bird; if true standards of behavior should define.
Again ... I stand corrected.

Paying taxes as opposed to going to jail doesn't make one heroic.
Volunteering to defend your country and losing your life for the cause... heroic.

One exception might be those KIA's shot in the back as they desert the battle. But I'm not aware of any of those in the current conflict.
