Just curious how some markets perceive the pecking order of the anchors. Some places I've been put the weekend guys/gals in succession to the 11pm throne. Others make it the 5pm. Still others, the morning crews is considered the next in line for pay scale/advancement. What's it like in your market?

Depends on the particular talent.
I've seen weekend, 5 or 5:30, and morning anchors promoted to the top spot.

In recent years (in my market anyway) the morning anchors take second spot to the evening folks.

I'm the 5:00 anchor and was offered the evening spot at one point, but didn't take it. At our shop, it's more like Weekend... Morning/Midday...5:00...6:00/10:00

Isn't it usually who's getting 'pecked' by the GM?

Good lord.. what a strange question. I would promote the person who I thought would do the best job.

It's not the military here.. main anchors aren't colonels and the morning show majors.

I used to work for a news director who used a lot of military terms. "Troop movements" meant he was sending reporters to cover a big story, for example. Weird.

Us Spx Guy's aren't good enough to be included in the pecking order?

Well so many are peckers in their own right that it would just be redundant. :D

those are the two money shows though, so it stands to reason.
