I need to get files from the State Dept., FBI and FAA on someone who died 10 years ago. Before I blindly begin submitting foia forms, can anyone give me shortcuts/suggestions for getting the information quicker than it would take to submit them to the various pio offices? Thanks in advance!

In my experience, it has worked to call the PIO and tell them what you are looking for. Tell them (in a friendly and non-threating way) that you are willing to file an FOI request if necessary. About half the time I have done that, the PIO has said not to worry about the FOI request and they get me the information quickly.
It's doesn't always work, but it's worth a shot.

Each compartment of each agency has its own procedure (and possibly forms), also.

Your station attorney can't do it? Or is this for personal reasons?

I deal with the DOD, and they have a lot of web-based help on filling out FOI for their department, perhaps the agencies you are dealing with do as well.
But I agree with those who say start with the PIO... if you are respectful and polite it could save you MONTHS in you search. (The last FOI request I filed was months ago and haven't heard word one back and that is typical at DoD.)
