So here's what I heard on my way to work the other day...

"Coming up... where this man was when he shot three people at an office building. What he was doing, and why he did it. That's next."

Um... so... you're going to tell us... the entire story?

Well, that's kinda what I assumed by watching the news.

Nitwits.

Kids... don't write your teases by telling the viewer "who, what, where, why and when... when we come back." That's the whole point of the news... to tell you those things. Tease specific elements. Give the viewer something smart to look forward to. Don't cover up your inability to write by teasing the basics.

You'll be better for it.

Peace out.

This is what happens when you cut the budget so much you have to hire kids right out of high school and college to do your producing.

Poetic justice if you ask me. Keep laying off those experienced people.

QB]Where - well, he was in or near the office building, obviously.

What - he was shooting people.

Why - they didn't really answer that and may not yet know the answer.

How come nobody had the chase footage from the air?

Even a lame, overworked, half-awake producer with the creativity sucked out of him like the reproductive cells of one of Paris Hilton's dates would have at least come up with something a little less half-assed.

Even... "A gunman goes on a shooting rampage in an office building" is better than that other tease.

Even... "A gunman goes on a shooting rampage in an office building" is better than that other tease."a gunman goes on a SHOOTING rampage" I think that is a little redundent, but I is not a wordsmith. I guess he could have gone on a KNITTING rampage, but then he would be a tailor.

"Man claims he did not commit suicide in Texas."
or
"DNA test confirm that Stern was shooting blanks"

if you hire cheap, you get weak, period.
To make maters worse apparently nobody there who has any real experience double-checked that piss poor copy before it went to air.

And people wonder why the numbers for news is down.

Oh the irony. I, too, wonder why the NUMBERS for news IS down. Not really... I'd be more interested in knowing why the numbers for news ARE down. It certainly couldn't be because the media have such talented and erudite professionals.

Agreed.

ANY tease that taunts the viewer with "...we'll tell/show you, next!" is lazy pathetic writing, not to mention condescending to the viewer.

"We'll show you the video, if you sit patiently through all our comercials and a boring golden hammer VO about one of our corporate clients at a charity dinner."

After the seemingly endless string of CNN tech errors (i.e. "Where's Obama" and the X over Cheney) it's not surprising to hear that they also write terrible teases.
