Please someone!!!!! Tell these fricken producers and writers.... there are other religious denominations besides Catholics that observe Easter. Show me a good ole Baptist Sunrise Service rather than the usual Pope stuff.

Gee, considering that that are 61 million baptised Catholics in the US, making it the largest demonination in one church in the US, and the fact that Catholics observe Holy Thursday, Good Friday AND Easter with liturgy and communion - well, it kinda makes covering Catholics at Easter a no brainer...I mean, if you want to interest the most viewers and all.

If, on the other hand, you're suggesting going to the Baptist church down on the corner because your town is made up of mostly Baptists, then, by all means go for it. As far as the national media, I think they've figured it out for themselves.

I did figure it out and thank you for imput. There are more Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, & Lutheran Churches in my area. The majority of the local Catholic Churches have closed due to membership decline and Priest scandals.

Because I don't embrace organized religion myself but was raised a Catholic, I wonder if I was revealing some deeply hidden emotion related to the Catholic church? Hmmmmmm.

It absolutely sucks having to work on Easter, give them a break if maybe they're just trying to fill their shows and not start sadistically biting the heads off of marshmallow peeps.

Please, think of the peeps!

With that said, why are we covering Easter? Did you all cover Passover? Did you cover some stupid Mulim holy day or week when it happened?

I'm a Catholic and I put my foot down when people in my shop wanted to cover Good Friday services. Why? Just use the Filipinos beating themselves with hair whips and nailing themselves to a cross as your kicker and move on!!!

This is an easy answer. Catholic services just photograph better. More things going on, robes, crosses, etc. It's simply more ornate and makes better video. Simple as that.

Plus, the feed from Vatican City comes from CNN, and has the advantage of being several hours ahead so is a slam dunk for shortstaffed people cutting VO's in a hurry for the evening show.

I've always wanted to do an Easter nat-pak with one of those guys that carries a cross all over town...interviewing on-lookers; getting nat's of honks, wood scraping the sidewalk, etc. Or even if the Newman Center or some group were doing the 14 stages of the crusifixion (dropping the cross, women weeping, whipping from Roman Soldiers).

We'll usually settle for an Easter Egg hunt though...

I'd say that the Pastor at my church (Southern Baptist) is pretty photogenic...and between worship and the message, it would pretty good on TV.... And you could probably convince the guys at the video switcher upstairs to provide a feed....

However, doing a LIVE shot in front of the church is not acceptable. smile.gif
