Local NWSFO web site.
I use some of the adjoining offices for backups. PSU site if everything else is late. That usually means they don't have the numbers either.

PSU is the most reliable for me, but for some reason I can't download the data from work. Some type of security protection at PSU.
Therefore, I download the files on my jump drive and take them to work...

Not everyone has the option of installing whatever operating system and software they want.

Talk to your management, show them the increased forecasting tools at your disposal, tell them the advantages of running your own model and exporting it for on-air use...
Or use it at home and have the files available for you to FTP from the office automatically.

I'm just trying to save the .buf file to my desktop and it gives me this error message about the server being reset???

It's not a huge problem. I do most of my forecasting at home. I can still get the NAM on the NWS page.

Yeah, that's an older way of doing it and a lot of servers won't actually let you anonymously, un-secure shell ftp anymore. Go through http and you can do it thusly:

Here is an idea.. Why don't you put a proposal together and send it to BG and explain that this is vitally important to all of the YBTV stations. When you do that and get that passed by the corporate people, then we will by GEMPAK and run the files on our own systems in our own weather departments. :D
Have a nice day...Oh and let me know how that works for you

Hey folks, for some reason my bufget utility is no longer working....may have some how become corrupted. Anyway, I'm trying to find a spot to dowload it from but none of the links seem to be working. Any ideas?

Once we sell KRON, the money will start flowing so I'm sure that proposal will be the first one acted on.
:moon:
We'll never sell KRON until we decide to throw in half-a-dozen other stations for free.
Anyways, every SNOW site I have also has GFS/NAM/WLNS WRF/RUC sounding uploaded too, so if you're desparate let me know and I can add it.

There is that dreaded last resort... In desperation, I called up my parents and begged them to email me the files when my top choices for the data were unavailable. My home laptop is freaking out right now and can't use it. ***Parents+Computers=Rise in Blood Pressure.*** So...I successfully walked my dad through downloading the files AND attaching it to an email...something he has never really succeeded. That was a somewhat painful phone conversation. I could actually hear my mother bristle at the mention of email and attachments.
Two minutes later, Severe_Clear calls and says "Hey, let me email you those files!" Two minutes to late...
Wow...that makes me sound like a total kid.

Yes... let's throw in WLNS - WTEN- WRIC- WBAY and whomever else posts on this board from our group for fun with the KRON sale :frustrated:
To answer your question - no we are not desparate - JB and I just want our hands on GEMPAK. We have more machines that we will know what to do with... but we don't have the program.

By 'desperate' I meant if you really can't find another source for BUFKIT files, I can generate them too...
I still don't think we can sell KRON anywhere near a price point that won't hurt us regardless of what we throw in.

For those of you who don't want to mess with Gempak, but have access to a linux box, you can use modsnd5 to generate your bufkit profiles. All you need is a little knowledge of how to navigate around a linux file system and the ability to read and follow directions.
Edit to add: How on earth did I become a senior member???? When did that happen????

I wanted to get this move this thread back up as I am having a problem finding some BUFKIT data for Central Ohio. PSU has been coming up empty for me. The map is there, but there is not data. I get an error message. Anyone having a similar problem?
I am looking for alternate sites that will have Columbus, Ohio.

Does/If we ever get GEMPAK include the rdale roadshow of training and installation help? :D
