Climb our friendly tree each morning to find easy-going conversation on just about any topic. How are you feeling? We may or may not care, but you can still tell us! Got a storm and want to talk about the dynamics, well this really isn't the place for that  , but you can still do it if you want.
Find some of your favorite and least favorite wxline members like, televisionweatherguy (chairman), WXChick (see her every Wednesday, and flirt daily), WXGolfMan (he's new, but seems like a veteran), StormtrackerTony (need a low-brow laugh?), CasaNova (need to live vicariously through a ladies man?), WisconsinWX (be greeted with wierd words), Derecho (all smiles, but a little sleepy), Big Country (Virginia hill people talk?), Swingman (no longer a wingman, this Great Plains weatherman now has some moves of his own), Southside-of-the-sky (photoshop mastery), MOCR (a picture is worth a 1,000 lol's), WXFORECASTER (go to his webpage or else, now talkin' taters!), nywx10 (don't mess with this life-veteran new yorka!), ...and many, many others.
Pull up a chair, sip some coffee between those cut-ins and short weather hits, or if you are just slacking during your show on a slow weather day graemlins/eusa_shifty.gif graemlins/eusa_whistle.gif ...we'll get you through the week! :D

My wife is stuck on the iced Starbucks they sell at stores. It's like 12 bucks for a 12pack, that's more than my beer!!!

Anyone have a Beaners Coffee nearby? They started in Michigan and are spreading across the Country. IMO, they are better than Starbucks and cheaper to boot!

I love diet mountain dew and diet coke. The problem is that my wife was ordering the ice coffee at McD's a few weeks ago and asked if it could be made with caffeine-free coffee. He said no...and then explained he wish it could because caffeine hardens the arteries.
Well, she got on the 'net and sho 'nuf, caffeine is linked to hardening of the arteries and resistance to insulin, increasing the risk of heart disease and diabetes. Argh. Now she's on me about my soda. :(

if anyone is bored, got some tornado coverage streaming live right now on abc-3340...Spann has already left a little while ago, but the morning guy is doing a really good job...Very short staffed around there, only one mic, running through master control and can't get to the tower cams or anything else other than radar...They've been doing a good job, especially considering the situation....A good funny happened a little earlier (I want call out attention to the blooper on here in case any general public roams around, but many on here may be able to relate...probably noone but myself noticed it as it only happened on the web stream...if you want to hear what happened, I'll PM you)

Hey Ben, what's your thought on the severe potential today? SPC and NWS both not buying into it...Directional shear looking decent this afternoon with potential of surface low over Tennessee (classic severe wx location for us)..CAPE looks a bit low on forecast soundings, but nevertheless hints of a little bit there this afternoon...Wouldn't surprise me at all if an isolated low-topped supercell or two fired later today

Hey Ben, latest SPC outlook has pushed the small wind/tornado risk eastward into (or perhaps bordering) your western DMA...Still wouldn't surprise me for it to become necessary to shift that risk over the CSRA and a good bit of SC as well...We shall see...Latest RUC soundings still looking nice on the directional shear and hinting at enough CAPE (although only a little bit) to cause some trouble..

first tornado warning in the upstate of SC....I'm actually a bit surprised that there hasn't been more...CAPE about 1500 acording to some of the data I've seen from this afternoon, good directional shear, 0-3km helicity about 200-ish / EHI near 2....Pretty significant numbers for SC standards....Some discrete cells over the midlands with very weak meso's, but surprisingly not intense enough to be of any concern

I agree, some cooler air is arriving a bit quicker. But looking out west if still looks showery, with tons of clouds and cooler weather I just see showers, except perhaps just east. Convergence appears to be right over us, but upper support is weak...keep it simple man, don't over think it!

I love it, it's been boring, and finally requires a bit of skill. Take into account drought, less rain likely, persistance with cooler air west moving in, clouds/no clouds, finally no where near MOS, GFS has been fairly consistent with this so far, except changing the clearing time for this weekend. I'm actually happy, my forecast has been very, very consistent even since last week.

Well don't get me wrong, I love a good challenge and an active pattern...One that takes a lot of skill to master..but I just want to feel confident in the forecast once I've used those skills...That's what I'm lacking today; the confidence..The severe wx aspect is the main concern..If it were just a temperature and "what's the chance of showers" type of forecast, then it wouldn't get me all bent out of shape...but when it comes to severe wx, I like to have the confidence...
I know I'm passionate about severe wx because I personally know enough about it to know when I'm safe, when I need to take shelter, what I'm looking at, etc...That leaves me to be fascinated over the natural beauty of storms...However, I think ultimately, I have this fear deep down for others that I care about that don't know how to deal with it..and no matter how much I harp on them to have a NWR alert always on standby, most of them never do it..Some are in Myrtle Beach, others near Charleston, some in Columbia, some near Greenville...My NWR won't alert me for the whole state, so if I'm sleeping or doing something else, I wouldn't know when to call and make sure they're taking shelter...That's why I like to be able to give everyone a heads up on when a risk is there and I like knowing for myself so I can make sure I organize my schedule to where I can babysit the radar between hours X and Y when the risk of severe weather is....When you've got boundaries, CAPE and good directional shear like this, it doesn't take but 5 minutes for a tornado to spin up in any thunderstorm cell (as we saw with that upstate cell last night that quickly started rotating)..It's just one of those situations to where I feel that peoples' lives that I care about are in my hands...A temperature bust I can live with, but if I make a severe weather bust and ultimately ended up with a loved one being killed, I would never be able to live with myself...Even though it's technically not my responsibility to warn people that are too stubborn to keep their NWR alert on, I still would blame myself..It's just my personality, I've got a very protective nature to me..That's why I want the confidence to know when I can sleep and do other things, and when I need to be babysitting the radar for my own peace of mind!
Sorry for the ramble there! Now back to my watching the strength of the meso's in the coastal squall :D

That's why you sign up for WeatherCall. It's free from our website if you are in our viewing area. Phone call (not text) and email when there's a polygon over your home. Not an entire county warning alert. Just as good as a weather radio in my opinion. But, both are the best bet.

But, both are the best bet.hmm, I'll have to check into that and see what stations in the state offer that type of service..Any recommendations of a free or cheap service that could be programmed to notify me of severe weather over the whole state? I don't know if telephone services would work for me or not, as I tend to sleep right through the phone ringing. haha! I'd like to have something like a NWR alert box that would loudly activate to the point of waking me if there were any warnings issued statewide..Do they make something like that? I guess if all else fails, I could get one of those computer softwares that pop up every warning on the screen and make an alarm tone...Just turn the computer volume all the way up so the tone would blast me out of bed

Ben, what are you going with Today/Tonight/Tomorrow?
Looking like best rain chances (as far as concentrated rains go) will be east closer toward the coast (6z NAM coming in more moist today than the 0z had it, but gonna take more than that to change my mind)...though with heating, I wouldn't rule out widely scattered showers/storms in the west this afternoon...Front has pushed fairly far to the east, but wouldn't be surprised for it to retreat back inland as a warm front later today/tonight as the cutoff low retrogrades...likely to bring up chances of steadier rains tonight and tomorrow...hints of a surface wave coming from the south and that looks to mainly affect the eastern part of the state..Provided the warm front comes inland and a surface low travels up it, could pose an isolated tornado risk to the extreme coast...All would depend on how strong the surface wave is as to how much tropical air it can bring onshore and how much it can back the surface winds ahead of it..Complex setup, either way you look at it

If anyone wants a FREE golf club go to www.upswinggolf.com. (http://www.upswinggolf.com.) I just got their putter, they're actually getting good reviews, and the company was created by ex-execs from Callaway and TaylorMade.
Check it out.

Yeah Ben, that kind of service is unacceptable...If it were me, I would contact them and let them know that I wasn't happy in a calm but stern tone...They would likely offer to come back and redo some of it (and at that point you would have to watch them carefully to make sure that they do it)...If they wont come back, then next choice would be BBB..Can simply file a complaint online and will likely get some service that way...and if nothing at that point, they'll at least get a negative rating from the BBB (I've had to do this with a company for false advertisement before...sure got their act cleaned up fast..) If that doesn't work, then can always go the small claims court route and sue for a refund plus the court cost..May be a lot of trouble, but I personally would go that far with it just for the principle of it...

Not sure if your guys' graphics work like mine at all, but do you have problems with ground clutter on a US Sat/Rad image?
If so, how do you get rid of it?
The program I use, the satellite and radar are put together into one image, and I can use a single color table on it. The lowest reflectivities are white, with higher being green. I tried to add some transparency in where the changeover is, but it's not completely solving the problem.

Usually the vendors remove the ground clutter, or as you are doing, change the transparency to eliminate the lower reflectivites.

Our system probably works different than all your guys'.
And Mark, we're using radar data directly from NOAAPort, so it's not being adjusted by the vendor.

Well, ya asked what 'we' do, and I told ya. You might want to investigate a setup like the vendors have, where you can mask certain areas and filter out the bad sites for a cleaner nexrad display you can offer your clients.

Good morning chick!
Back from a wedding vacation weekend in STL. Trying to recoop. No food yesterday. Very weak, tired. But, feeling decent. Just glad I'm here (as in on this earth), after that weekend.
Southside, had a good cheddar burger from Blueberry Hill for you! graemlins/icon_kidra.gif
Let's make it a good week BC'ers!

I'm feeling pretty good today... plan is to sleep from 1:30P 'til 5 or 6, watch the Broncos & Pack tonight, then sleep for an hour or two before coming into work tomorrow.
Ben - glad you had a good weekend back in STL. graemlins/cheers2.gif

Good luck with that. A plan to sleep in the afternoon never works for me!

Morning all! Sounds like a wild wedding weekend in the STL Ben. I am actually quite awake this morning, usually feel this way on Monday. Tuesdays are hell. Cold here today, we have our first freeze this morning. So far we are in the 2nd warmest Oct on record. I was thinking out first freeze wasn't going to show up until Nov, it was close. How many people did try to set their clocks back Saturday night?

Dude, is that late night love makin' or early morning. That couple knows how to party!
WxChick,
I say hit up Buckhead, tons of restaurants/shops,
do a Coca Cola tour, CNN is cool, the Underground is ok, kind of overly hyped though. Olympic Park is right there with CNN. You can always call and try to get a Weather Channel tour. Stone mountain is a site NE of town.

Will have to check out Buckhead. Sounds fun. I'm only there fore 2.5 days though.

Stay away from there unless you want to get in a gang fight. Def do TWC - that place is sweet!
