some rain moved in here and kind of messed it up.. but the outerbanks of NC were rocking in here.. a quick tip.. if you have an outside tv antenna.. or your cable co. gets a channel 2 or 6 off air, watch them.. when they start getting all "Wavey" or have lots of interference.. then you can check FM and you should hear something.

what if 6 and 2 always look wavy, due to stations in neighboring markets broadcasting on them graemlins/face_banghead.gif

look to see if they are more wavey than normal... you could awlways check 3-4-5 as well.. but channel 6 is the real sign than FM is going to open up.

sadly enough, all of those stations (2 through 7) are taken by neighboring markets...They do look a bit wavier than normal, but a quick scan of the FM didn't turn up any unusual stations....wonder if I'm just in a bad area

the nature of E-SKIP.. is it can be very quick.. you might hear a station, then it fades away and someone pops in.. right now.. i'm not hearing anything here. it's faded down.. might fade up later.. also note, ESkip isn't a two way street all the time, ie, i might hear a station in your back yard, but you don't hear anything my way.

To add just a bit to what Glen is saying, over-the-air TV channel 6 is just below the start of the FM Band. Ch6 sometimes causes intereference (and vice-versa) with non-comm FM stations at 88.1, so if you're getting those "wavy lines" on Ch6, it would be a sign that the FM band is opening up...

So how's 10M been lately? I haven't even had it turned on.

Crazy morning here...pulled in Pierre and Mitchell, SD on regular FM car radio...another e-skip day. 1,350 miles for Pierre.

I pulled into my driveway one night about 1am when suddenly the 2 meter band opened up bigtime. I had a three way conversation with stations 1000 miles to my north on simplex. Totally cool. Never expected that on 2 meter.

I'm a fairly new tech, and I got to play with HF on Field Day Saturday. Now I know how people can find it addictive....

I also got to try my hand at PSK31, which was also pretty fun. Now the trick is being able to set my home rig up for it on TV money. ;)

Pulling in Tulsa and the Ozarks on my way into work today...it's addictive for some strange reason.

Never expected that on 2 meter. Is there a typical simplex frequency that people around the globe use...or it is more hit and miss? I am faily new to 2 meter and would love to know where to look.

146.520 is the national calling frequency, but I've never heard anybody on it round here. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough. ;)

I forgot to mention it in my earlier post, but that was some impressive DX there, Chief!

Bumping...

Anyone catch anything today. I ended up with close to 40 logs from MS/MO/AR/KS/OK and elsewhere
