Great... Another Accuweather Forecast. There will be a lot of people saying "this damn this doesn't work" just like on Back to the Future!
Ambient Devices, which specializes in integrating Internet information into everyday products, has devised an umbrella with a built-in radio receiver in its handle that receives weather data for 150 U.S. locations from forecasting site Accuweather.com via a proprietary wireless network.
According to Accuweather... It should be raining here all day here! Not one drop in the "City".

Sorry for bringing this thread up from like 3000 years ago, but I wanted to share a related link:

Shouldn't the simple fact of using an umbrella tell you it's raining anyway

129 bucks for an umbrella and an AccuWeather forecast? I'll pee on your leg and tell you it's raining for free.

There is another umbrella that is cheaper, cooler looking, and it gets its forecast from that MSN Live service or what ever its called. The only thing... there is a monthly or yearly service fee. It's not worth it. Plus, everyone has a cell phone... why not just get the weather through text or something similar... wouldn't that be just as easy?

Knowing people today... prolly not. It's sad too. What ever happened to actually watching a forecast? (I'm pretty sure this thing called the internet didn't help much)

I saw a segment on MSNBC the other day where people were getting micro chips put into their forearms to clock in and out of work and unlock doors at home:doh: Who the hell is that lazy and beside that give a company or government the ability to track your every move...

Yep.. its called RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). If you have ever seen the little badges that you hold up to a door lock to unlock the door... its the same concept. They are VERY cool... and VERY helpful. One thing that they are being used for is healthcare. Just like "chipping" dogs... you can chip humans and put health info on them. Things like medical conditions, allergies, and contact info could be just a simple reader swipe away. It's a very good idea in my opinion. ( BTW.. if you want to mess around RFID, Thinkgeek.com has a kit... http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/science/907a/ )

How is the accuracy of this umbrella of which you speak? Does it correctly tell you if it's raining at least 50 percent of the time?
